Cubs Beat Indians To Stay Alive In Series

Oct 31, 2016 7:37 AM

Behind another classic postseason start from Jon Lester, a homer from Kris Bryant and an extended outing from closer Aroldis Chapman, the Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians 3-2 to narrow their deficit in the World Series to 3-2.

The Cubs are attempting to become just the sixth of 45 teams to fall behind 3-1 to come back in a best-of-seven World Series.

Lobaton, Murphy Lead Nats Past Dodgers To Tie Series

Oct 10, 2016 3:57 PM

Leave it to light-hitting Jose Lobaton to change the complexion of the Nationals' NL Division Series with one big swing.

Getting a rare chance to play because of starting catcher Wilson Ramos' late-September injury, backup Lobaton hit a three-run homer through a strong wind to erase an early deficit Sunday. Daniel Murphy provided more-expected production with two RBI, and Washington's bullpen threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings, leading the Nationals past the Dodgers 5-2 in a rain-postponed Game 2 to even the series at 1-all.

Blue Jays Sweep Rangers, Advance To ALCS

Oct 10, 2016 3:56 PM

There were no questions from the Toronto crowd, but there was plenty of back-and-forth between the Blue Jays and Rangers Sunday night. While many were busy watching the presidential debate in the United States, up here in Canada, Texas took an early lead in the first inning, the Blue Jays quickly went ahead and then padded their lead with home runs. Then the Ranger crawled back and re-took the lead in the sixth only to have Toronto tie it back up right away.

In the end, the Blue Jays won on what could have been an inning-ending double play in the tenth inning when Rougned Odor made a wide throw to first. That allowed Josh Donaldson to score to give Toronto a 7-6 win to sweep the series and give their fans another thing to celebrate on Canadian Thanksgiving Monday.

Scherzer: 'I'm Accountable' For Game 1 Loss

Oct 8, 2016 11:41 PM

Max Scherzer believes the Nationals were one hanging curveball away from beating the Dodgers in Game 1 of their NL Division Series.

Scherzer hung a curveball to Justin Turner that became a two-run home run and gave up a home run to Corey Seager as the Nationals lost to the Dodgers 4-3 on Friday night.

Nationals hitters decried the missed opportunities of going 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position, but Washington's ace took the blame for "mistakes" that proved costly.

The Cleveland Indians outlasted the Boston Red Sox 5-4 at Progressive Field on Thursday night in Game 1 of the ALDS.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning, the Indians were powered by solo home runs off the bats of Roberto Perez, Jason Kipnis and Francisco Lindor.

Sandy Leon homered in the fifth inning to bring the Red Sox to within a run, but Kipnis answered with an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to give Cleveland a cushion.

Brock Holt hit the game's sixth solo shot in the eight inning and the Red Sox put the tying run on base in the top of the ninth, but Cody Allen struck out three in the final frame.

Game 2 of the ALDS will be Friday afternoon at 4:30 PM EST with David Price and Corey Kluber on the mound.
